PBRC recruits, trains and supports volunteer lawyers interested in helping individuals and communities in need. We do not provide any direct legal assistance to the public.
PBRC is the statewide clearinghouse and coordinator of pro bono legal services. The Center’s mission is to promote equal access to justice by coordinating and supporting volunteer civil legal services, providing resources and support for legal advocates for the poor, and promoting cooperation within the legal community. One of our ongoing efforts for which we are seeking volunteer attorneys is in the Foreclosure Prevention Pro Bono Project. To volunteer or to find out more information, contact:
PBRC has compiled a list of pro bono programs offering a wide range of opportunities for attorneys interested in providing free civil legal services to the disadvantaged. In addition to direct client representation, several programs offer pro bono opportunities through advice clinics, mediation, hotlines, mentoring and training services. Most programs provide malpractice insurance.
PBRC offers training for attorneys interested in volunteering. Please check our website or contact the PBRC office for details on current training seminars. The Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) and PBRC are offering free and discounted slots for a selection of MSBA Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Courses. Volunteer attorneys are eligible for one of three (3) free slots in exchange for accepting a pro bono case referral from a recognized pro bono legal services program. Staff legal services attorneys may also register for one of three (3) discounted slots offered at 50% off the regular course cost. Slots will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. To receive a free or discounted slot, volunteers and staff lawyers should register through the Pro Bono Resource Center by calling 410-837-9379; 800-396-1274; emailing Kiah Elmore at email@example.com; or downloading a registration form at www.probonomd.org/cletraining.html.
Attorneys can also contact Kiah Elmore for more information on pro bono opportunities or to sign up to receive the PBRC E-Bulletin listing current pro bono opportunities, trainings, and special events.
